Imagine holding a Plank for 5 hours and 15 minutes and 15 seconds. This 57-yr old just held a plank for over 5 hrs, beating the previous record of 4 hours and 26 minutes. This guy is almost 60 yrs old and is proving to the world that there’s no age limit on being physically fit.
George Hood, who was a former U.S. Marine, did it to help raise awareness for Injured Vets. He said “We raise money to help them. We tend to forget about them sometimes. This helps raise awareness and draw attention to them — and I’m about that.” He was motivated by bystanders, loud music, and tons of people cheering him on throughout the day. He had someone constantly putting icing chips under his elbows to minimize the discomfort he was feeling throughout the ordeal.
Hood, who was a personal trainer and group exercise instructor for the marines used a very strict training regimine in order to prepare physically and mentally for this world record setting feat. His training included the following exercises:
- Training Sessions of 4 to 6 Hours per day
- Plank up to 30 Hours a Week
- Weighted Planks with 20 lbs and 40 lbs weights on his Back
- He recorded about 1,000 hours of training in order to achieve this goal!
We salute George Hood for not only being extremely determined and physically fit, but for doing this for a great cause in order to Raise awareness for all injured marines out there.
